ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN
Chinatown Visitor Centre
part of singapore culture & design research project
The design of the Chinatown Visitor Centre is a blend of traditional and modern features and furnishings to express the contemporary, cultural and historical characteristics of the community. The traditional architectural spirit is brought out through brick walls and pillars, curved wooden signs and Chinese arched doors. Nostalgic black and white photos, traditional hawker orange lights and untreated wooden block display stands are reminiscent of the old Chinatown. The elegant lighting made up of old photographs, as well as modern galleries and information stands, are all combined to give a touch of contemporariness.
Chinatown Visitor Centre is built and supported by National Heritage Board Singapore,
Singapore Tourism Board and Chinatown Business Association, Singapore.
