Botanicascent Reversible Packaging Design

— a reversible soap packaging design version one

Botanicascent is new skincare and haircare brand that aims to promote sustainable living in the Singapore community. The goal of the project is to create a cost-effective, unique and eye-catching packaging design that will stand out from Singaporean competitors. According to the Singapore market survey, most of the competitors’ products are designed using full-colour layouts and colour images. So, the focus of this design is SIMPLE: single colour; illustration; minimalism; primitive; locally made; easy to construct.

 

The packaging of Botanicascent experiments with the colour black and negative spaces to establish its brand awareness. It does away with the typical soft colour palette and italic typefaces. It challenges the notion that black and white are unsuitable for women’s products, especially skincare and hair care products. The shift to a simple communication style is reflected in the usage of white space, thick lines, and sans-serif fonts, while handwritten fonts give a personalized touch.

 

To reduce the cost of paper and printing, the design of this soap packaging allows it to be used in two different soap bars – handmade soap bars and organic soap bars. With only folding, no glue, and single-colour printing, the beauty of the packaging is how a flat piece of material turns into a floral illustration box with a rolling movement and interlocking system and can reversibly form a solid colour packaging of organic soap bars.
